Why it lasts.

Bumbu carves the Coffin from solid wood and finishes it by hand, so there is nothing to snap off or wear out. It is a seasonal piece built to come back out every Halloween for years.

Who it's for

For the parent
For parents who want open-ended, screen-free toys that last, a hand-carved seasonal piece with a working lid that returns to the shelf year after year.
For the educator
For Montessori and Waldorf settings, a seasonal small-world piece for Halloween storytelling and open-and-close fine motor play.
For the gift-giver
A characterful seasonal gift for a child who loves Halloween, spooky stories, and small-world play.

Ways to play.

Open and close the lid, hide a small figure inside, or set it at the heart of a haunted scene. The working lid makes it a favorite for the kind of suspense little storytellers love.

Pairs with the Bumbu Gravestones, the Bumbu Cobweb, and the Bumbu Halloween Pumpkin Set.

Details

Materials & construction

The Coffin is carved from sustainable wood and finished with non-toxic, water-based paint. The lid is a separate carved piece that opens and closes; there are no small parts to come loose.

Bumbu hand-carves and hand-paints its toys in Romania. Because each piece is worked by hand, the grain and the exact color vary slightly from one to the next. The wood keeps its natural texture, so light marks and color variation are normal.

Care & storage

Clean by hand with a dry or slightly damp cloth, never in the dishwasher and never left to soak, since trapped water can warp the lid and lift the paint. Stored cool and dry between seasons it keeps for years, and a little beeswax now and then keeps the finish fresh.
