Bikeho Handmade Wooden Tower with Passage

A tower carved from one piece of wood, with a passage running clean through its base. That passage is an invitation: a gate for the shepherd and her flock, a tunnel for the wooden train, a doorway between two kingdoms on the nature table. The tower does not tell the child what it is. The child tells the tower.

Bikeho cuts and sands each tower entirely by hand from a single piece of solid alder, so the grain runs unbroken from foot to turret, and where the tree offered bark or a curl of dark heartwood, the maker often lets it stay. The surfaces are finished in food-safe linseed and sunflower oils, smooth to the hand with the soft rounded edges of the Waldorf tradition.

Bikeho is the workshop of Lebensgemeinschaft Birkenhof in Germany, a community where skilled woodworkers train and new arrsupport employees with physical and learning impairments in the craft of artisan woodworking. Every piece carries that work in it. Because each tower is cut from its own piece of wood, no two are alike, and yours will differ in color and marking from the photograph, which is exactly as it should be.
