Every play kitchen needs somewhere to keep the good dishes. This tall hutch has two glass-fronted cupboards up top for the tea set and the dinner plates, and two roomy cupboards below for the pots, the pans, and the play food. A child stocks it, rearranges it, and runs the whole pantry.

It stands beside the kitchen like the real thing: doors that open, shelves that fill and empty, and a place for everything. Setting the table starts here, and so does the tidying up.

Why it lasts.

Drewart builds this in solid alder with rounded corners and a natural linseed-oil finish, no varnish. It arrives assembled and built to be opened, loaded, and leaned on every day for years. Each cupboard is hand-shaped, so the grain and finish vary slightly, and the glazed doors keep the favorite pieces on display. It is the kind of furniture a playroom keeps for a very long time.

Who it's for

For the parent
At home it gives the play kitchen a real pantry. Your child arranges the dishes behind the glass, stows the pots below, and learns where everything lives by putting it away. It is tall, solid, and genuinely useful for keeping the kitchen corner tidy instead of scattered across the floor.
For the educator
In the classroom it organizes a home corner: open shelving for sorting and matching dishes, closed cupboards for resetting the space between groups. Children practice tidying, categorizing, and caring for shared materials, and the glazed doors keep a display visible. It is built for daily classroom handling.
For the gift-giver
It is the gift that completes the kitchen, the hutch that makes the whole corner look like a real little home. Solid wood, glass-fronted cupboards, and nothing to assemble. It suits the family that already loves their wooden kitchen and the one building toward an heirloom set piece by piece.

Ways to play.

Stock the shelves, set the dishes behind the glass, and stow the pots and pans below. Pull out what you need to set the table, then put it all back when the meal is done. Rearrange the cupboards, run a shop or a bakery from the shelves, and keep the kitchen corner in order.

Pairs with the Drewart Kitchen, Natural, the Drewart Deluxe Stove, and the Drewart Kitchen Base, Natural.

Details

Materials & construction

The Drewart Kitchen Cupboard is made from solid alder, a close-grained European hardwood, with rounded corners and a natural linseed-oil finish. A few elements are finished with non-toxic acrylate paint, and the upper doors are glazed. The wood is left unvarnished, so it keeps its natural grain and can be re-oiled over the years.

Drewart has worked in wood for more than forty years, crafting its toys in Poland. Every piece is hand-shaped, so the grain, knots, and finish vary slightly from one to the next. Drewart toys are CE marked, tested to the European toy safety standard EN 71, and made from FSC-certified wood from responsibly managed forests.

Care & storage

Wipe clean with a dry or barely damp cloth, then dry it right away. Do not soak the wood or leave it sitting in water, since standing moisture can raise the grain or loosen a joint over time. If the wood ever looks dry or pale, rub in a little food-safe oil, such as linseed or a board oil, and buff off the excess. Store it somewhere dry and out of direct sun or a hot radiator, which can fade or crack natural wood. Small marks and a softening patina are normal on an oiled, unvarnished toy and are part of how it ages.
