Why it lasts.

Bumbu carves the Fawn Eating from solid maple and finishes it by hand, so there is nothing to snap off or wear out. A keepsake animal that only gains character as the wood warms with years of play.

Who it's for

For the parent
For parents who want open-ended, screen-free toys that last, a hand-carved woodland animal that anchors the small-world scenes children build.
For the educator
For Montessori and Waldorf settings, a realistic woodland figure for nature study, small-world play, and storytelling.
For the gift-giver
A lasting gift for a child who loves animals and the woods, and a natural companion to the rest of the Bumbu deer.

Ways to play.

Set it grazing among the grasses, pair it with the standing and resting fawns for a family, or tuck it into a meadow scene. Its lowered head tells a small story on its own.

Pairs with the Bumbu Deer Fawn, the Bumbu Fawn Resting, and the Bumbu Small Bush.

What families found.

Details

Materials & construction

The Fawn Eating is carved from a single piece of maple wood and finished with non-toxic, water-based paint, with no small parts to come loose.

Bumbu hand-carves and hand-paints its toys in Romania. Because each piece is worked by hand, the grain and the exact markings vary slightly from one to the next. The wood keeps its natural texture, so light marks and color variation are normal.

Care & storage

A soft, dry cloth handles most cleaning; for a stubborn spot, use a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. Keep it out of standing water and away from radiators and sunny windowsills, and an occasional rub of beeswax revives the color if the wood looks dry.
