The Summer Collection

Play that lives outside.

Sand, water, gardens, and long afternoons. Natural wood and pure wool toys, hand-picked for the season by a small family shop in Los Angeles.

Our summer collection is built for the season's two moods: the loud, barefoot hours in the backyard, and the slow, quiet ones on a blanket in the shade. Every piece is chosen the way we choose everything we carry. We find the maker, study the materials, and only stock what we would hand our own daughters. No plastic that cracks by August.

If a toy needs sand, water, grass, or sun to make sense, it lives here.

Common questions

What is a mud kitchen and why do children love it?

A mud kitchen is an outdoor play space where children cook with soil, water, leaves, and whatever the garden gives them. There is no recipe. There is no wrong batch. The play is sensory, open-ended, and deeply satisfying.

We do not sell mud kitchens. We carry what makes them worth using.

The tools children reach for most are the ones that feel real. Wild Mountain Child makes hand-forged garden tools sized for small hands. Papoose brings natural materials: wooden bowls, felted forms, pieces that hold up in the dirt. Our Nature Craft collection is where the ingredients live: botanicals, fizz, and the loose parts that turn mud cooking into something closer to a laboratory.

The oldest classroom is the backyard.

What are the best outdoor toys for children ages 3 and up?

Three is a turning point. Children this age move from watching to doing. They want tools, roles, and materials with real weight.

In the garden: Wild Mountain Child hand-forged trowels and rakes built for actual digging. A Bolga basket for collecting. These are not toys that get put away after one afternoon.

On the move: The Berlin P-Wee Wagon goes wherever they go. Sturdy enough for cargo, smooth enough for a passenger. The Motorbike Ride-On is balance training disguised as pure fun.

In the water: Pour sets, potion kits, sensory tools. Everything that makes a hose feel like a laboratory.

Are these toys safe?

Everything we carry is child safe. We stock toys that meet US safety standards, including ASTM F963. Many of our pieces also carry CE marking and EN-71 certification. For items designed for children under three, we look at stricter material requirements and smaller-parts guidelines.

The materials matter to us: wood, silicone, natural fibers, non-toxic paint. We find the maker, study the materials, and only stock what we would hand our own daughters.

Are these toys made to last?

Most of them, yes. The pieces we are most proud of age well. The wooden tools develop a patina. The Bolga baskets soften with use. The wagons earn their dents.

What holds across the whole shop: nothing we carry will degrade in a way that puts a child at risk. That is the standard we hold to, at every price point.

We do not follow one teaching method. A good toy is a good toy, and we leave the philosophy to you.
