Gus + Mabel

Soft felt worlds: ponds, meadows, and fairy streams. Hand-cut and stitched to be played in for years.

A maker story

A small Australian studio, working in felt.

Gus + Mabel is a family studio in Australia that makes felt play mats, habitats, and loose pieces for small-world play. Each scene is open-ended: a pond becomes an ocean, a meadow becomes a fairy kingdom, the same mat returns to the floor season after season.

The pieces are cut and stitched in small batches from a dense wool-blend felt that keeps its shape under real play. No screens, no batteries, and nothing that wears out the imagination.

A felt mat doesn't tell a child what to do with it. That's the whole point. The Gus + Mabel studio

Why it lasts

Felt is quiet, durable, and endlessly re-imagined; the kind of toy a younger sibling inherits.

Why we carry it

The playmat that keeps coming back to the floor.

We keep one on our own playroom floor. It survives toddlers, scales up to elaborate fairy games, and rolls away clean at the end of the day. It's the rare set that earns its shelf space twice.
