Two eyepieces, a solid bridge, and no glass in them at all. That turns out not to matter. Held up to the eyes, they make a child look harder at whatever is in front of them.

Age Recommendations

Recommended ages, in years. Sorted by the developmental window this toy opens, so it lands in the right season.

Why it lasts.

We carry Q Toys at My Toy Wagon because they finish wood to be felt rather than sealed smooth, and because they make under a Fair Trade scheme in Vietnam with a zero-waste principle behind the material choices.

Who it's for

For the parent
They get a child outside and looking, which is more than most pretend-play props manage.
For the educator
A nature-study prop that sends children out to observe rather than to be told.
For the gift-giver
Small, sturdy and immediately understood, which makes it an easy gift.

Ways to play.

Bird watching from a window. Explorer games in the garden. A prop for pirates, spies and expeditions. Hang them on a hook by the back door.

Details

Materials & construction

Rubberwood with a food-grade colour finish. Q Toys list the material simply as rubber wood.

Designed in Australia and made in Vietnam under a Fair Trade scheme by Q Toys.

Age & safety

Safety

Tested to ASTM F963, the US toy safety standard. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

Care & storage

Wipe with a dry cloth, or one barely damp. Do not soak, and keep it out of direct sun so the colours hold.

Because the timber is natural and the work is done by hand, grain, colour and size vary a little from piece to piece. That is the material showing, not a fault.

Q Toys Q Toys began in Australia and makes in Vietnam under a Fair Trade scheme. They finish their wood to stay palpable under a hand rather than sealed smooth, so a child feels the grain of the thing they are holding. Plantation rubberwood, acacia and Canadian hemlock, with some pieces made from the industrial byproducts of coconut and lychee trees, and a zero-waste principle behind the material choices.
