2 to 4 business days from our partner warehouse in Northern California.

Forty lengths of bamboo cut at different sizes, and two small acacia houses to build around. Bamboo is hollow and light, so a four-year-old can stand a tower taller than they are.

There is no right answer in the bag. It falls over, and that is most of the lesson.

From three, when a tower falling down is interesting rather than upsetting.

Why it lasts.

We carry Q Toys at My Toy Wagon because they finish wood to be felt rather than sealed smooth, and because they make under a Fair Trade scheme in Vietnam with a zero-waste principle behind the material choices.

Who it's for

For the parent
Forty-two pieces for sixty dollars, and it does not have an end state, so it does not get finished and abandoned.
For the educator
Open-ended construction in a material most classrooms do not have, and light enough for children to carry and reset themselves.
For the gift-giver
Under sixty-five dollars, and it looks like nothing else under the tree. Open-ended, so it suits a wide age range.

Ways to play.

Build the tallest tower that will stand, then find out why it stopped standing.

Sort the pieces by length before you build, which is size-ordering work without calling it that.

Count them out and back into the bag at the end.

Set the two houses down and build a village around them.

Take it to the sand table. Bamboo handles sand better than painted blocks do.

Materials & construction

Treated bamboo in assorted lengths with two houses in acacia wood, supplied in a storage bag. Q Toys list the material simply as wood.

Bamboo is a grass, not a timber, and it regrows in a few years rather than a few decades. It is also hollow, which is why a set this size stays light enough for a small child to carry.

Because the bamboo is natural and untinted, it weathers and deepens in color over time. Every set ends up looking slightly different, and no two pieces match exactly to begin with.

Age & safety

Safety

Tested to ASTM F963, the US toy safety standard. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

Contains small parts. Not suitable for children under three.

Care & storage

Wipe with a dry cloth and store it in its bag. Keep it dry, since bamboo will split if it is soaked and then dried fast. The color darkening over time is normal and not a fault.
