Why it lasts.

Solid maple, hand-painted. The ginger is worked over the grain rather than hiding it, so the wood still shows through the color, and the cream chest and muzzle are painted in over the top.

Who it's for

For the parent
It suits a family whose child will pick the animal out of any set, which most will.
For the educator
It gives a December shelf a figure with no assigned part to play, so children have to decide what it is doing before they can use it.
For the gift-giver
It makes an easy gift on its own at a stocking price, and it is the piece a cat family will choose first.

Ways to play.

It is the piece that does not belong, which is why children reach for it. The cat is not part of the Christmas story, so it gets a role invented for it every time. It also sits down, which none of the other figures do, so it becomes the one that stays put while the rest move.

Materials & construction

Maple, hand-painted where it is colored and left bare where it is not. The body and tail are largely unpainted wood.

Care & storage

Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Keep it out of standing water and away from direct heat, which can open the grain over time.
