Why it lasts.

Solid maple, hand-painted. At 5.4 inches wide and nearly an inch thick it is the broadest piece in the range, and it stands on its own without a base.

Who it's for

For the parent
It suits a family that wants one substantial piece rather than several small ones.
For the educator
It anchors a December shelf and gives children a destination, which is usually what turns handling into play.
For the gift-giver
It makes the gift that the rest of the set gets added to over following years.

Ways to play.

It gives the figures somewhere to go. Children move Santa toward the door and away from it, and the house becomes the place the whole scene is organized around. The lit windows do most of the work, because they imply someone is already inside.
